Legal Aid And Awareness Foundation programmes
Legal Aid And Awareness Foundation programmes are run to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society, including and educate them about their legal rights. It aims to ensure that justice is accessible to all, through various measures — awareness camps, dissemination of legal knowledge through print and digital media, and free legal representation for the needy beneficiaries. These initiatives also include increasing legal literacy and securing the rights of under government schemes and laws.
Legal Aid
What:
To provide legal aid free of cost or at nominal charges to the weaker sections of the society.
Who gets it:To vulnerable sections (like women, children, SC/ST members, victims of natural calamities, widows, etc.) as defined under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
How to get it:
Includes the appointment and representation of a lawyer, legal advice, and payment of attorneys' fees in court.
Example:
Appointment of a lawyer for defence in the Court of Session, if the accused is not able to afford one
